On the plus side the draw was very good and when it was alight the cigar produced lots of smoke. The cigar then started to burnt only in middle and wrapper seemed to refuse to stay light: this could have been due to it over humidified, the cigar was kept in the same humidor as the other smoked so shouldn’t have been that strongly affected. The construction is where this cigar really began to full down at the beginning of the smoke the cigar went out a few times which was a bad start. The initial flavour I picked up was dry wood and as the first part of the smoke progressed I did pick up another flavour, but I just couldn’t put my finger on what it was (which is not very useful in terms of this review, but it interested/annoyed me at the time! The cigar became quite a mild smoke in middle third with an earthy flavour coming through and finally in the final third spices began to come through, although the cigar was still quite mild. The cigar had a mild smell the wrapper was also a nice brown and there were only minor veins – this cigar certainly looked very promising! The prelight draw was nice and easy and the cigar was well packed and had no knots. I enjoyed the Short Churchill but didn’t like the Wide Churchill at all so was very interested to see what The Petit Churchill would be like. Now that I have smoked this cigar I have tried every variant of the Romeo y Julieta Churchill, except for the actual Churchill. There are certainly better cigars out there and although not terrible, I wouldn’t recommend it. Although it was constructed well, the appearance was okay at best and the flavours were very one dimensional. Overall I found this cigar to be quite disappointing. The cigar also produced a good amount of smoke and held its ash well. Unfortunately the flavours produced in this cigar were quite one-dimensional – the cigar had a mild to medium tobacco taste throughout, a little wood did begin to come through in middle third, but other than that there was no development as the smoke progressed, which is always disappointing. The band was however terrible, and the wrapper could have been applied a bit more smoothly – it was very wrinkled and crumpled in parts. The pre-light draw was slightly tight and produced a small hint of chocolate. Unlit the cigar had a strong tobacco/grassy smell. The wrapper on this cigar was quite veiny so not particularly attractive in that respect, but it did feel well packed and had no obvious knots. There is also a machine made version, which is branded blue rather than red. They are Peruvian and they come in a number of different vitolas, although it seems this Robusto is now discontinued. I was slightly disappointed with the selection, but then one shouldn’t expect to uncover a couple of gems in an airport duty free shop!įrom what I can gather these cigars are made exclusively for CGars Ltd. I also helped myself to a box of 10 Montecristo No. I also had a look at the duty free at Hamburg Airport, which had two humidor cabinets, but unfortunately most of the cigars in there were not available to passengers travelling within the EU, and the unavailable ones were the most interesting! EU passengers could pick up small packs of various vitolas from the big brands (Montecristo, Partagás, Cohiba etc). The only thing to say is that the prices were not really that cheap, and in fact you can buy a box of the Ramón Allones cheaper from one of the UK online tobacconists. The selection at Heathrow Terminal 5 was very good considering it was an airport duty free shop they have a number of humidor cabinets containing a considerable number of both Cuban and New World cigars, including the Ramón Allones Petit Belicoso UK Regional Edition. Having flown in I did however get to look at the duty free shop at Heathrow and Hamburg airports. I spent last weekend in Germany for my Grandad’s 80th birthday, which would normally be a reason to celebrate with a cigar but unfortunately I didn’t bring any cigars with me and there were none on offer in the town where they live, so I had to make-do with a nice meal instead. With the weather taking a turn for the worse and the clocks going back there are less and less opportunities to smoke some cigars, which also means the number of reviews is likely to dwindle over the next six months or so but, fear not, I will fit a smoke in whenever I ever I get the chance and will post and review whenever possible I also have some notes for a few smokes over the last couple of months that I can post so do have a backup plans of sorts.
